depends on the company, industry, and position. if you need to clarify something that isn't easily explained on your resume, then yes. like if you're applying for a job in another state. you can explain that you will be relocating there in x months and would be interested in the opportunity to work for the company once settled in, etc.

but if the job ad specifically says no cover letters, don't include one.

Ha! I prefer my bread sliced & toasted when making ice cream sandwiches. Were my parents slackers or cool when they would make dinner ice cream and toasted bread with peanut butter back when my sister & I were young?

Exactly, that contrast between the warm bread & beginning to melt ice cream is the best part. I had to look up pao doce. Some of the images reminded me of ensaymada others like challah or brioche.

But y'know what document has always bugged me? Cover letters. Do they really do anything?

that's like my strength man. I know for a fact that I've gotten face to face interviews for jobs I had no business applying to based on the Cover Letter.

I get real creative and wacky to a certain extent. Or do something odd like drop an obscure historical reference. We're socially conditioned to think this is impolite or not normal, but honestly if a recruiter has seen 2000 cover letters of the same isht it definitely makes you stand out.

the 2nd to last place I applied to replaced the cover letter with just sending a video of yourself explaining in one minute how their site works. i had to borrow a buddy's webcam for it.

i hear that's a sign of things to come. also timed online tests.
