On DVD and very enjoyable. Apparently, there's going to be a domestic remake.

Taken 2-6
You know, after seeing this, Taken 1, The Grey, and Unknown, I get the feeling that Liam Neeson is grabbing up all the "action-dad" roles that Harrison Ford use to play.

Did either of you read and/or like the book?

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish): 8
The Girl Who Played with Fire: 6
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest: 5

I understand all the stories are meant to be part of a much larger, unfinished, story arc, but the second one was pretty lame with a few awesome scenes thrown in, and the third one just sucked. The first one makes a great standalone movie.

Heard rumors that Side Effects is Soderbergh's last film before retiring. What's the story there?

Tired of Hollywood corporate BS. I guess he wants to dedicate himself to painting. Alleged to be pretty good at it.

Too bad he's become jaded and cynical about The Biz. Maybe he just needs a break, then take it up again with the intent to present his work over the internet.

Sound City - 8

It was really good to watch a documentary about an iconic recording studio that seemed to be the nexus of every other VH1 Behind The Music story. The venue itself deserved to have it's own sort of Behind The Music treatment. It was interesting to hear about the sound engineering magic of the Neve desk mixer and the recording room that the place had that birthed classic albums like Rumors, Damn The Torpedoes, and Nevermind.

It was also neat to see the second part of the movie devoted to the Neve mixer itself and how it was integral to the recording sessions for the film soundtrack. Having many luminaries from the rock world congregate to jam and exchange ideas in a tiny studio was quite the spectacle (Butch Vig tells Paul McCartney what to do at a recording session--classic!).

I didn't even touch on the subliminal topic of "old versus new"/analog versus digital in the recording process. Interestingly enough, didn't Keanu Reeves create a documentary about analog versus digital film production as well? Those two films would serve as parallels about change in the 21st century and the caveats they may bring.
