big props to BJ Penn
Guy just keeps mowing down the big names. His stiffest competition has come since hes left the UFC and he has sure risen to the top. For some reason im not too excited about another mino vs fedor fight. |

I didn't think Rodrigo was that great to begin with. Honestly, its the first time I've heard of him. Who has he fought besides BJ?
I'd like to see a rematch with BJ and Pulver or against Genki Sudo. I think BJ would own both, but Pulver is a great fighter and Sudo is just fun as hell to watch.

Rodrigo has beaten Takase and Mach (though both of those guys are WWs and Rodrigo a MW).
He is not great but def. promising. Crosely Gracie is the other rising, new generation Gracie. He just became the first to tap Mach (though I think Crosly is also a MW). If BJ wants his rematch with Pulver, he should give Hughes his too. "His stiffest competition has come since hes left the UFC and he has sure risen to the top." - not really. Gomi was a big fight but fighting Bang at 170 was not. This Rodrigo fight was somewhat of an X factor fight. Ya, BJ was moving up in weight again, but like i said, Rodrigo isnt exactly a top MW (but the fight was huge, hype wise). There was a rumour that if BJ did beat Rodrigo, Ralph Gracie, BJ's old coach, may step up to fight him. BJ would most likely smash Ralph though. Sudo would be smashed by BJ too I think. |

Who is the best Gracie to date, in your opinion?
Out of all the MWs out there, who would give BJ a run for his money? WWs?

Quote:
I think a rematch with Jens Pulver or Hughes would be a good match but if BJ goes up in weight again from the looks of it, it might be a bad mistake for BJ but who knows BJ has suprised everyone and has dominated in three different weight classes so far. So not unless Rickson Gracie is coming out of retirement, which i highly doubt, i would say BJ just dominated the top Gracie fighter out there. |

Mentioned it already up above but Rodrigo and Crosley Gracie are the 2 best of the new generation.
Again, Crosley just tapped Sakurai (the first to tap him) but then again, Sakurai is really a WW and in a big time slump (Rodrigo also beat Sakurai but in a non-dominating decision). Both Rodrigo and Crosley though are very promising still and while they may not reach the elite ranks, they should break the top 10 at some point, I think. For BJ, Im not going to get into which MWs would be good matches for him because he hasnt faced a top MW yet. So as for BJ vs. the WW div: - First, I'd like to see him rematch Hughes - There's also Frank Trigg and Sean Sherk Pretty much any of the top 5 WWs would be good fights for BJ I think. Sakurai, in his prime was also considred one of the most complete fighters and a fight with the Sakurai of back then against BJ now wouldve be really interesting because they can both fight anyhwhere. It should be interesting to see who/where BJ will fight next. Because the Hughes fight, legit a win as it was, leaves some questions to be answered still and since Rodrigo is not a top MW, I wouldnt call BJ, the clear #1 fighter P4P (he's no where close to cleaning out the WW div) but I def. think BJ is the most complete fighter in the game today. |

he definitely should rematch hughes just end all doubts that the first fight was a fluke. i don't know if the match will come about with the ufc management being bitchy about the penn's non-UFC fights. i think they are suing each other and things haven't been resolved yet.

Kamen: the UFC/BJ scenario has been resolved. The UFC stripped BJ of his WW title and BJ sued when Matt Hughes rewon the belt (against St. Pierre). BJ lost.
This was one of the hottest topics on mma.tv when it happened (months back) and though I just remembered you're from Hawaii too, and I am one of BJ's biggest fans, I simply think that it was a black and white situation which BJ should have known what was coming. This is pretty standard in the fight (boxing, mma) business but when you are the champ/belt holder of a particular organization, you cannot go and fight elsewhere (esp. in another big/rival organization) as you please. I think its that simple. I am still a fan of BJ but support the UFC on the decision they made. |

UFC/Zuffa pays shit. Why do you think all the fighters have other jobs or go to Japan to get paid well. That's the only reason why BJ did that.
Below is a chart with all of the fighters who competed at UFC 50, and their guarantee for their last fight in Las Vegas in UFC (if they've competed in Vegas at all) listed from highest to lowest: Tito Ortiz ($125,000) Matt Hughes ($55,000) Evan Tanner ($15,000) Frank Trigg ($10,000) Marvin Eastman ($10,000) Renato Verissimo ($10,000) Rich Franklin ($10,000) Robbie Lawler ($8,000) Georges St-Pierre ($4,000) Jorge Rivera ($3,000) Travis Lutter (N/A) Ivan Salaverry (N/A) Tony Fryklund (N/A) Patrick Cote (N/A) Pretty sad huh |

its good to hear that the legal stuff is done even though penn lost.
i kind of agree with ufc and i understand the contract stipulations. it would be sad if penn didn't break free from it to do those fights. business rules aren't always tailored to the optimal sports fans ideals. maybe there will be better options in the future? i'm not holding my breath on that. its a new sport so its tough getting to the level of pro boxing rewards. it will take awhile to get that kind of financial backing and sponsorship. i think penn can do alright if the rumble on the rock shows get bigger.

Well, BJ can fight in K-1 or Pride, they offer more money than the UFC.
But I think BJs best fights lie in the UFC. I think if there is a really big demand from the fans and big hype too that BJ may be allowed back in the UFC. Money is stronger than pride. Imagine a 2 fight deal that the UFC could put together: "BJ vs. Team Miletich (the rematches)" First, BJ vs. Hughes then BJ vs. Pulver. |

GD: MMA is mainsteam in Japan, its a totally unfair comparison.
By the way, even if that list of pay is accurate, its only for the one card. Everyone bitches and whines about Zuffa (current UFC owners) but they have brought the UFC up ten fold from what it was when they took over. Some sport 'fans' will never find a reason to stop whining. |
