no q-tip!!!!
make sure both surfaces are clean. squeeze a pea size drop on the CPU. fold/cut up a piece of stiff paper or use a razor blade to spread it out. you don't have to go all the way to the edges, since the paste will spread out when you put the heat sink back on there. the idea here is to spread the paste evenly, like you're icing a cake. not too thick. you want the paste to spread out. but not ooze all over the place, like those pics from the service manual. something like this.. http://www.hardwarezone.com/guides/amd-socket939/?pg=6

i've been holding off doing software update [for two machines, one 10.4 and the other 10.3] cause there were stories on the webs about some wierd crashing..
anybody have these problems?

Just updated to 10.4.6 on my 1.33GHz iBook G4 and it seems to be running just fine.

On my dual-450 Powermac G4, Tiger boots up quicker than Jaguar did. I don't know if it's because Jaguar was all fragmented and jacked up or what but my OS is in general running better.
Like somebody mentioned, upgrading means you can use and notice all sorts of secret abilities app's have that don't manifest in older OS. Like in Safari, I get a preview of links on many sites. Final Cut Pro was stuttering on Tiger, but I'm sure that's my underpowered processor's fault.

sync? you mean keep exact copies of each other? i haven't seen any.
i use AM Deadlink to find duplicate bookmarks. i think it can find dupes between two separate bookmark files. also, you can use the Yahoo Bookmarks toolbar, Yahoo My Web, or Delicious to keep/organize your bookmarks online.
