Rock Galotti digs guns more than anyone on the planet. I have not met anyone, anywhere, anyhow who knows and loves guns more than this man. The sound of the firing pin makes him cream. He is Woo's gunman and that is an insane title to have. When Woo makes a movie, Rock is close by with his gun collection.

Giant Robot: What is your favorite gun?
Rock Galotti: 1911- 45 semi-automatic. This is for my personal collection. The one I have is special. It's has all the bells and whistles. We built one for Nick in 24 carat gold. He likes guns and he's a shooter as we say. It's worth $5,000. I try to do all modifications myself.

GR: When did you start?
RG: When I was 13. While people were reading Spiderman, I got Guns and Ammo. My parents forbade me to have one so when I was 18 I bought one. And I joined the Marines and was in Desert Storm and then fell into this weapon. I have thousands of weapons. Everything I have in my personal collection, then I get bored with them and put them into the film inventory. I never sell them.

GR: Do you have illegal guns?
RG: Illegal for you, legal for me. I have a federal permit and a State of California permit. I transport weapons everywhere.

GR: What are the legalities of having concealed weapons?
RG: Can't do it. In California they are trying to pass a law where you can pass a course to be able to do this. Right now, if Nick gets his life threatened, then he could carry one since he's popular.

GR: What's the weirdest gun?
RG: Starship troopergun. Coming out in Fall, it's a sci-fi shoot-em-up 310,000 rounds used... Every gun I make is functional.

GR: Are you the gun maker for the stars?
RG: Gun supplier maybe. I can get anything. It just takes time.

GR: Do you have special connections?
RG: I have a pistol from the KGBÐa fully automatic handgun. We also have sniper guns. This will go thru three feet of cement.

GR: What do you think of accidents like Brandon Lee getting shot?
RG: That's a delicate subject. That could have been prevented.

1) Cheat camera angle.
2) Bulletproof vest, we use it even with blanks if someone is getting shot.
3) Weapons inspection.

I inspect them every time I hand them to someone. Everything in the barrel even a piece of wood will come out. It's a mistake to think that blanks cannot hurt. They will kill you. When you see a machine gun MP5, it shoots flame 2.5 feet! If i put it on your belly it will open you up, you will be doing to bathroom with a Ziploc baggie for the rest of your life. If you know what you are doing, you can unmodify them to shot real bullets quick. Some actors want to carry them to get into their character and that's fine if I trust them.

GR: Are there some you don't trust?
RG: It happens. I can't name names.

GR: Do you like gang movies?
RG: I did one with Ice-T called Tank Girl. I am a former police officer, so I think they get a bum rap. For 38K, they are on the street. I don't appreciate anybody bashing law enforcement. I don't appreciate people dodging the draft. I don't do gangster movies. If it's a '20s -'30s one, then it's OK. But as far as Compton style, then I don't do them. I'm really busy.

Cho: How did you work with John?
RG: I worked on Hard Target and met John and we hit it off. He felt comfortable with the powerful blanks and fire. In Broken Arrow, he requested me. He requested me on this and I feel more honored that you can imagine. I'm the only guy who's worked on all three films. Especially with his movies, he's Gun God as far as films go.. He trusts me. When I say, "When we do this.. we need to..." he says "Don't worry I trust you." He's honestly the nicest man I've ever worked for in this industry. I worked for Zemekis, but John takes the cake. I will leave any show that I'm on to work for him. Starship Troopers was a year-long project, and I told them I would leave them for a shorter Woo film.

GR: What can you do to make a director think you are doing a bad job?
RG: Make the weapons jam a lot. A lot of times it has to do with a faulty blank or the person is holding the gun too soft, the altitude... Especially in a big special effects film, you have 30k worth of stuff going on and then the gun doesn't go off.... On this show, Nick was firing a gold gun and we broke a firing pin and when he went to fire it, it clicked and John didn't get mad. They work most of the time - 99.5%.

GR: Do you like The Killer?
RG: It's awesome..

GR: What do you think about people who say that the gun parts are fake?
RG: There's two things especially in America that people need to know. In Asia people don't care.

1) Movies are to entertain people. You come out and hopefully you had fun. Realism is important sometimes anyway.
2) Would you rather waste time reloading guns? That cuts down on the gun fire, T & A, car crashes, chases, or special effects. You have to lose something and loading guns is at the bottom. John does show people reload once or twice in the movie to acknowledge, but if you are looking at the movie saying that they aren't reloading then you are looking at the wrong stuff.

GR: Did the guns look real?
RG: There isn't ever a fireball coming out of them. But some directors like to show the violence of it.

GR: Does Woo like or shoot guns?
RG: He's not into it, he's never fired a real one.

GR: Which actor is the best at firing guns?
RG: I would have to say Charlie SheenÐhe likes it anyway, Tom Hanks is very into it. As far as being a really good shot. Want a good laugh? One of the best I ever taught is Bo Derek. 15-20 feet away and I would trust her to shoot a person behind me. But only with a 44 magnum. She loves that gun.

GR: Have you seen the beeper gun?
RG: Yes, I have. Companies make them. If you have the money, you can get anything. There are semi-automatic underwater guns. A regular Joe will see a movie and see weapons that do some amazing things, and think it's fake, but they are real.

GR: Have you used a gun for not self defense?
RG: I was in Grenada and Desert Storm. There wasn't much in Grenada. In the sandbox there was more. I went behind enemy lines find target and call on airstrikes to neutralize the targets. I didn't mind it at all. I've been shot at. I've exchange gun fire with some fools and I am still here, who do you think lost?

Fuck with Margaret and she'll shove the 9mm up your ass.

GR: What's Margaret's favorite gun?
RG: Margaret is the SIG p228 hand gun 9mm. FBI issue. I like 45 more than the SIG. I can fire it faster. Would you rather throw 13 golf balls at someone or eight bricks? One of these will drop you. But it may take five for the other gun. (pointing at the sniper machine gun) The big weapon doesn't matter. It's around in Lebanon. You use this gun to blast through the cement of a wall. This will knock your dick in the dirt.

GR: What are your favorite gun films.
RG: Top gun movies? This is a tough one: 1) The Killer 2) Guns used well-Platoon 3) Once Upon a Time in America 4) Dillinger 5) Gettysburg ÐÊthe next is Face Off.

GR: What are the worst?
RG: I'll tell you what. I can't really say, but they could have been better in Escape from L.A.
