Old Magazine Cover of Murakami
I stumbled on this the other day. It’s a cover Of Haruki Murakami on a Japanese magazine from 1983. Now graph out his bibliography and calculate its chronology in your head. At the time he only had a handful of short stories, two brief novellas, and A Wild Sheep Chase notched beneath his belt.
This was well before Norwegian Wood. Before he made it big.
It’s kind of surreal to see him this young.

He had also published several essays and had released a few translations, especially works by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
hehehe <3
I’m not Japanese. I wasn’t born until the 90s were introduced to people. Was this fantasy, absurd, funny style of cover popular for this magizine, time period, nation at the time? Or was Murakami-San just doing what he does? Which is making things melt on impact! THAT WAS PUNTASTIC!
