GR: brown? jon: yeh, brown and i got into a really bad accident and that happened right after i graduated so i was stuck in providence. GR: what happened? jon: oh my god, i was working at a shipping company, sorta like u.p.s., and my job was unloading boxes from the backs of trucks...it was a real crappy job...but there was a big conveyor belt and my arm got pulled into the machinery into the conveyor belt and it was my right arm. so they shut off the machinery and i was trapped in it. my whole right arm up to my elbow was just pulverized. so i was stuck in this machine and they had to take it apart. ten minutes later, they got me out and rushed me to a hospital...and when i was there, they were like, "why don't you stand here and fill out these papers?" i was on a stretcher or something and i was like, "you guys, i think i'm gonna pass out right now." the whole room got black and i got dizzy and then i came to again. and yeh, because of the accident, i was in the hospital for a long time and physical therapy and stuff and i couldn't leave providence for about three years. i was just so relieved that i could finally leave the place. that's when i moved to san francisco...part of me just wanted to get as far away from the east coast as possible like all this bad shit happened, i gotta get away. |

GR: have you ever considered moving back to hawaii? jon: me and amy we've actually been considering moving...well, because we're both sorta freelance...we do freelance work and work through the mail so we can pretty much work from anywhere...like we can be in india or some place...but i'm not ready to go back right now...it's too isolated. GR: i heard the cost of living is so expensive there. jon: oh yeh...everything like gasoline is 1/3 more there...food is pretty expensive...rent is high...it's also cool but it's really laid back so whenever i go to hawaii, i get sucked into the laid back way of living and i stop doing stuff and oh man, i can't get motivated! i think it's something in the air...who knows? we then talked about his latest film, fame whore... GR: what's fame whore about? jon: ok, let me give you the run down...there are 3 separate stories and different things happening in different cities.to different people and all these people never hook up at the end of the movie. but basically, two of the main characters, one is a tennis player who's really famous and he's like number one in the world and all these rumors start coming up that he's gay and he really isn't gay but these rumors start coming out in newspapers so that's when he gets freaked out that his career's going down the drain because of rumors. so the first story is about someone who's famous who's slowly or in danger of losing his fame. then there's the second story that amy plays the character, sophie. she plays this woman who has absolutely no talent at anything...she has tons of money because she has a trust fund and she's trying to do about 30 different things at once. so this character's trying to be a designer, filmmaker, videomaker, painter, and a clothing manufacturer and she's failing it all. so her story is about someone who has no talent but lots of money and wants to be famous...so she plays the "fame whore" character. the third character is this guy named george who works at a dog pound, finding homes for dogs and his mind is so screwed up that he has an imaginary friend who's this 6-foot tall talking dog...in this section of the movie, there's someone in a dog suit walking around talking to him...and he's the character who doesn't want to have anything to do with fame...he's like giving his life over to the dogs and making sure they have homes...he's like the antithesis to the other 2 characters because he's not interested in fame and yeh, that's basically the whole movie. |
