Report from E3 2003

TDK is promoting their UFC: Sudden Impact video game by having some fighters signing autographs. Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes are baddasses in the octagon but they seem pretty nice in person. I have no idea how good the game is, though, since it is hidden behind chain-link fence.
Other celebrities the show include some girl from American Idol and Paula Abdul (both in support of the American Idol video game) and Todd MacFarlane, who has a Spawn game and a bunch of other stuff. There are some ads for MTV's Celebrity Death Match game, but I can't verify if Ron Jeremy, Carrot Top, or Dennis Rodman will be in attendance.

Nestled in the sugary-cereal-looking Disney Interactive booth are some light cycles! Bruce Boxleitner and other members of the cast of Tron will be on hand to sign autographs in celebration of the Tron 2.0 video game, which looks pretty good--way better than the movie, but hopefully not better than the sequel which will come out at the same time.

Universal Vivendi's pavilion is full of licensed games such as Lord of the Rings and Dark Angel, but the most interesting display is the larger-than-life statue of the Hulk. Everyone's sick of seeing the commericals of the crudely-animated game, but this sculpted likeness was wearing low-rider jeans and had a serious case of camel toe. Whoa.

There are new versions of SSX, Pac-Man, and Pokemon coming up, but the niftiest thing offered by Nintendo is a Carrera slotcar set that you control with a Gameboy Advance. You can program your car's specs and pit routine and also play against a ghost car. Just like in a regular slotcars, if you go too fast, your vehicle will go flying like Mario Andretti! I guess even high-tech controllers can't fix inertia.
