I remember the first shop serving boba was Relaxstation on Sawtelle Blvd. It must have been in the later 90s. By that time, there were some shops in Monterey Park and boba soon became a craze. Years later it became available at too many places and restaurants began to serve it as well. Here's an article in 2000 from the NY Daily News. I'm quoted in it saying, "I don't think it's going to be huge," I said that?! However, I do include it in my list of "50 Pop Culture Influentials." Barnacle Island Photo Book by Patrick Tsai

Patrick Tsai was a volunteer helper at Giant Robot long ago. I've kept in sporadic touch with him over the last many years and watched him go from a filmmaker who had a short film project that made it to Sundance to blogging about his life and love in China and then his life in Japan. I've missed out on his previous books which has sold out, but this time I got one. Photography can be confusing. Who gives who the winning ticket? Giant Robot Bikes Tee

The Giant Robot Bikes Shirt is Back One fine day, I decided to draw bikes. I'd never say I do art, but for the sake of production I can pick up a pen and give it a shot. The white bike was one of my favorites growing up. Know what that is? It's the Mongoose BMX with Moto Mags! The other bike I liked a lot was the Schwinn Sting-Ray series. These had a smaller wheel in the front, but the part that I liked about them was the 5 speed gear shifter. That shifter was eventually removed for what I believe were safety reasons.
