APAK, who hide out like hermits on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon. For the show, the two artists are preparing 30 colorful gauche paintings ranging from 5″ x 7″ to 8″ x 10″ on wood and paper, illustrating “the fantastic utopian life and adventures of little beings living in a lush organic environments surrounded by curious and friendly little animals.” Tweaked with fantastic elements and charged by rich colors, the familiar landscapes are familiar yet surreal, hinting at fantastic narrative while suggesting truths about the real world at the same time. A reception with the artists will be held from 6:30 – 10:00 on Saturday, April 21.

Lettus Bee release event Andy Jenkins at GR2, April 21 – April 25 Reception: Saturday, April 21 GR2 2062 Sawtelle Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90025 gr2.net (310) 445-9276 Giant Robot is proud to celebrate the release of the Lettus Bee vinyl figure by San Pedro-based artist, illustrator, designer, writer, and independent publisher, as well as art director of Girl Skateboards, Andy Jenkins. Made in conjunction with Ningyoushi and Upper Playground, the piece faithfully brings to three dimensions a character from the Wrench Pilot comic strip that Jenkins and Mel Blend created for TransWorld Skateboarding in the early ’90s, and was made in a strictly limited edition of 500. In addition to showing the new piece (which features the iconic skater doing an un-heroic face plant with his board in mid-air) Jenkins will bring out numerous related offerings, including Wrench Pilot giclee or silkscreen prints; original black-and-white ink drawings; selected items from his publishing and printing company, Bend Press; and other surprises. The opening reception will take place from 6:30 – 10:00 on Saturday, April 21.
