[nggallery id=82] Vote for Survival at GR2 October 18 – November 12 Reception: Saturday, October 18, 6:30 -10:00 GR2 2062 Sawtelle Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90025 gr2.net (310) 445-9276 Giant Robot is proud to present Vote for Survival, an art show featuring new work by Nikki McClure. First making a name for herself as a solo musician in the early ’90s, McClure has redefined herself as a visual artist by creating stunning works of art out of single sheets of paper with a common X-Acto knife. Instilling the somewhat Asian art form of paper cutting with the populist themes of punk rock, Riot Grrl, and motherhood, the Olympia-based artist has created distinctive pieces for album covers, book covers, a successful series of self-published calendars and postcards, handmade publications, and gallery shows. Vote For Survival is an art tour traveling by train, making stops on the West Coast: Olympia, San Francisco, Los Angeles. The show features a series of limited-edition signs, silk-screened on wood signboards and is a call to action-a reminder of what is really important as this election nears. Original paper cuts will also be exhibited, including artwork from the 2009 “Wake Up” calendar, book covers, and new work inspired by the summer of berries and boats. A reception for McClure will take place from 6:30 – 10:00 on Saturday, October 18. Dirty Hands – second screening at the HIFF. Yes, I got to intro the film. It’s now the third time I’ve done this for the film, and each time, I try and do it different. I try and tell a story, or what the film means to me (which keeps changing), and so on. It’s hard to capture the millions of things I think about the film. It all races through my head, and whatever comes out in the 1 minute I’m talking is the best I can do. Pretty cool to have the name of the film in simple digital lights at a theater. David signs shirts after the screening and the Q and A. The Question and Answer sessions are funny. They’re brutally honest and most of the time, it’s like listening to two old friends talk. If you’re in, you’ll understand it better, but people start laughing anyway. Desiring God. David reads no books. So we’ll see what happens. Maybe he’ll get something from it. Merch sales. People dig the shirts, the pillow is another story. They sell slower, but they are really cool. The image on the pillow is “stacks” which is a design Dave did, that fits the film perfectly. It means a lot if you see the film. The pillow is surprisingly a perfect commemorative item. I like the fact that Harry is also drawing and signing autographs. Yes, he’s part of the game.

Had to show you what my early mornings at 7am look like. Saw a sea hare. Maybe 1 foot long cruising along. This is the way to start your day before interviews, and stuff like that. If I could do this all the time, I’d never lose. If you don’t hit the beach in the morning… hit the ramen. Yotteko Ya – This is a great spot for ramen. Part of a chain of 100 of these in Japan, this is another one of those ramen places that people have to check out. Tracy That’s what it looks like with the extra pork. It’ll bring your heart rate way up. Soup broth will do the same. Gyoza. Jeff Gaskell Yotteko Ya 1960 Kapiolani Blvd #214 Honolulu, HI 96826
