Art Exhibition Rob Sato 442: Original Art From The Graphic Novel April 14th - May 2nd, 2018 - Reception Sat April 14th 6:30-10pm Join us to celebrate the work of Rob Sato. The exhibition showcases the original illustrated comic panels from a graphic novel titled, 442, each hand-painted in watercolor. 442 refers to the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the heroic, segregated unit of Japanese American soldiers who fought for the United States in World War II. Despite 120,000 Japanese Americans being placed in concentration camps, thousands volunteered and fought in Europe and served in intelligence services in the Pacific. Sat April 21st. 3pm Rob Sato will tell his own family's story in relation to the art work. Sato's grandfather was interned in the Jerome and Rohwer, Arkansas camps...
I've interviewed Rob Sato before and it's great to do it again. One of the best parts about reinterviewing someone after a lot of time is to see how they and their work has changed. Rob's' talent is still among the best. More people need to recognize that. Here's the interview at Giant Robot Media.
The giant group shot says it all. It's everyone who was there at the end of the show, from family, friends, to brand new friends who just happened to wander in. All are welcomed and that's how the shows end. Rob Sato and Ako Castuera are in the first 1/3 mark. Rob wearing an off white shirt and Ako in black. This is quite a photograph and a nice way to wrap up a night. Arco Iris is an amazing exhibition. You should come and visit to check this one out. Here's a link to more photos and another link to the art.
Giant Robot 2 - GR2 Gallery is proud to host Arco Iris, a solo exhibition by Rob Sato.Rob Sato is back with his first solo show at Giant Robot since 2009. His latest body of work, Arco Iris, marks another radical shift in style. These meditative but electrifyingly chromatic paintings are a fresh, expansive continuation of Rob’s established themes of transition and transformation mixed with some keen observations on human behavior made with his characteristic blend of joy, disgust, melancholy and humor.October 21 - November 8, 2017Giant Robot 2 - GR2 Gallery2062 Sawtelle BoulevardLos Angeles CA 90025Opening Reception with the Artist:Saturday, October 21st, 6:30 - 10:00 PM
