Giant Robot Store and GR2 News

It’s not Herculean for a company to lose 75% of it’s value in a month or so, yet, Olympus has done that. Since October it’s lost such value, but it’s because of a company scandal. This Time article quickly gets to it, and explains the boring mess, which essentially means instead of showing losses they just bought phony companies – some which may have been owned by Yakuza. We have heard many times that the Olympus Pen is a great camera. Perhaps it’s value will shrink as fast as the company if there’s a break up of it all. (Time – Olympus)

At 26, Chikara Fujita won an in house award for the best design at Nikon. This video shows a little of his thinking process. The video is sort of a propaganda machine for a huge camera company. There’s a lot of personal feelings included as well, but the Nikon Coolpix p300 was designed by a young man. You may shut it after a few minutes, but there’s some interestings parts. They tell you about his personality and then gets into some design aspects of the camera and how he goes about it. Process is always fun to see. (core77 – Nikon)

Imagine, you throw the napkin off of your ice cream cone and it flies away in the wind. You figure, “it’s ok, not that big of a deal, it’s just litter.” But Mr Kim is watching you through his viewfinder and taped the entire thing. He’s spying on you and with that evidence, he might make a few dollars and you’ll be busted. It’s amazing that in Korea, one can make money by filming people who are committing law breaking actions. Some might be a larger scale project, such as a business ripping people off, and that might take a hidden camera. It’s not easy to make a living just taping in Korea, but it’s possible. It’s also hard to believe that citizens who do investigative type of work can actually earn money. It makes sense, but it does put people in danger. (NY Times – Koreans Taping)

Cool looking camera with a poo design on the corner. The poo design is something of your own creation since you can download the plans and get them laser cut yourself. Then salvage some parts some from an older disposable camera to end up with a cool looking camera that shoots arty. This doesn’t look too easy to put together, but for the serious gear head, this looks like fun and probably much cheaper than some of those arty cameras out there. Design by Japanese studio – Kitdastudio. (Popphoto – KDS POTO2)
