Agenda Long Beach 2014: Babes, Dudes

I used to like attending ASR at the San Diego Convention Center. It was a great chance to see friends in the skateboarding world trapped under the same roof, and we got a couple of Giant Robot articles that way.  Of course the action sports retail trade show was famously ditched by vendors who refused to be gouged by the show’s organizers, but these days it’s been somewhat  replaced by a streetwear version. I’d never attended an Agenda show, but my friend Sophia Chang suggested I check out this week’s Long Beach event since she had curated a group exhibition for it. Reviews: Cockney Rejects, Youth Brigade, and Union 13 at the El Rey; Greg Ginn and Mike Vallely in Good For You

You know those Facebook contests that everyone enters but no one wins? Well, I actually won one via Goldenvoice and got tickets to see Youth Brigade at the El Rey last week. Yes, the same band that got in the school bus with Social Distortion and Minor Threat in  the 1984 documentary Another State of Mind is still at it and still ruling. And their BYO record label, which boasts key releases by 7 Seconds, SNFU, Bouncing Souls, Leatherface, and their own band, is going strong as attested by their somewhat recent box set…

Los Angeles Nista: Mike Vallely, Chuck Dukowski, Keith Morris, and me

So much Black Flag news today. Reyes, Ginn, Dukowski, and Robo will tour Europe. Morris, Dukowski, and Stevenson with Egerton will play Europe and Vegas. Will the Continent survive? Will there be any L.A. shows? Is this proof that Chuck Dukowski is not only a ripping bassist but the nicest guy who can get along with anyone and everyone?
