Giant Robot Store and GR2 News
Disabled Wrestling. We’ve featured this category in Japan and at times, it’s ridiculous but that’s what wrestling is. A blind man vs a deaf one? What easy prey for a headlining match. One who can’t hear a bell or a count, and the other who can’t see a thing, but is huge. Of course on some levels, this is all wrong, but at the same time, the article is going to prop up the pros vs the cons. It’s an expression, it’s a show of strength by the disabled community, but the fans? Why are some of them there? It’s double edged and some of the wrestlers aren’t disabled at all. We do wonder if they’re acting like they’re disabled. One thing that’s probably true, the handicapped parking will all be taken. (AFP – Disabled Wrestling)

C’mon. Chinese selling off babies for adoption. The ring was busted and 17 babies were sold in the last month! Farmers do get a sum of nearly $8000 for a boy, which is more than they make in a year. It probably happens all over the world, but the pressure of having baby boys can be that high in Chinese society that even with the population so huge, there’s still a need for baby trafficking. Happy birthday to me. You know those Facebook contests where you respond to a post to win something? That’s how I got on the list for Shonen Knife’s show at The Echo, courtesy of Big Wheel Magazine. (Thanks, dudes!) Of course, the band from Osaka is not new to me. They have been featured in the pages of Giant Robot numerous times and I’ve also blogged some of their more recent shows–not to mention have my daughter and her cousins and friend dress like them for Halloween two years ago. So it was rad to see them on their 30th anniversary tour, starting off with the “Good morning, Shonen Knife freaks” intro to the timeless 712 album that introduced their music to a generation of indie punks and grunge rockers.
I’m going to sound like a wimp, but this is cute. While we dudes all strive to not wear the same thing as anyone else, especially with close friends, some couples in China pair up and show it in their own style. Style is a figurative word since some of the designs are terrible, unlike a nice Giant Robot T Shirt. It’s cool how in China, this kind of “innocent” act is sort of okay in 2011. (CNN – China Shirts)
