Who knows what war crimes were committed on the Philippine locals who were just plowing their farm. Hiroo Onoda lived in a ditch for 30 years, not believing that Japan lost World War II. It’s a crazy story, but it happened and he wasn’t the only one. I’m not stoked on whatever this guy did while in the ditch, but I am impressed he’d go on for 30 years more. He was coaxed out in 1974! Photos by Ahn Sehong capture “comfort women” in Korea. Most are poor, broke, and even embarrassed. The ones that photographer Ahn Sehong photographs are still living in China, the place they were sent and subsequently “left” after World War 2. It’s a sad tale that has no resolve. Why were they there is the question. Who were they hiding them from? Internees were allowed to write letters and they ordered products from outside companies. The folks who owned this pharmacy in Colorado must have been afraid of something. Did they ship the orders? Was it possibly fear of being in collusion with the internees? (Huffpo – WWII)

The multi ton elephant in the room? Sex slaves from World War 2. The denial of existence versus the possibility of 50,000 to 200,000 victims. An apology, a little bit of acknowledgement, but no compensation and a current hope that the remaining who are still living, will soon pass away. (Guardian UK – Comfort women)
