Giant Robot Biennale 4 - The Final Day

It was a great final day of the Giant Robot Biennale 4 at JANM. There was no closing event scheduled so a bunch of us got together and walked through one last time to find new details in each part of the exhibition. Yoskay Yamamoto arrived first, then Rob Sato and Ako Castuera, followed by Andrew Hem, Luke Chueh and Esao Andrews. It was nice to hang out and experience everything together.  For the many who did make it during the last day, they got to ask questions, listen to stories, and take some photos with the artists. At JANM - GR Biennale 4 Installation Explained - What's in the Case? Part I

For the bunch of you who went to the Biennale 4 and didn't examine the Giant Robot Store Installation. Here's one angle of it. There are tons of details within so I'll make an effort in the next few days to explain it all.  The case I'm describing is in the bottom right corner blocked by the fella in blue t-shirt. 2015 with Giant Robot

Post GR Year 5 - Post Magazine and GR2 - Time quickly passed since the last issue of the magazine. This year marked the fifth since it came out. Just last year was the celebration of 20 years of Giant Robot, which included a fun gallery show and talk and the exhibition SuperAwesome: Art and Giant Robot at the Oakland Museum of California. One ride ends and another one continues. This year is just a little more of that. Teaching a Zine Class at Pitzer College - My early part of the year continues to be co-teaching the Asian American Zines Class at Pitzer College. The class is fun even with brand new students. I forget how young they are...

JANM: Drawing Party - Giant Robot Biennale 4 - Luke Chueh, Yoskay Yamamoto and Mari Inukai

"Drawing Party" took place at the Japanese American National Museum on Saturday. A stream of folks came in to draw with Luke Chueh, Mari Inukai and Yoskay Yamamoto and the topics went from Bears to Flowers with 13 minute intervals. Meanwhile Goh Nakamura playing a guitar accompaniment to the each of the topics. The event was meant to be a casual get together to draw and hopefully share ideas. Mari drew and did a little bit of watercolor embellishments. Yoskay did his infamous lines and details, and Luke went from his classic characters to his darkened imagery. With 8 sessions, or was it 9? and either 24 or 27 drawings raffled at the end, the chances to win a drawing...
