We’re not sure if this is a list of mostly almosts, but Kurt Suzuki is a full blooded Asian American in the big leagues. For the most part, the full blooded Asian Americans get fairly close and some have tasted the jewels of the Majors but are often in the minors trying to get back. It’s not a happy list of players, but there are the half Asian players like Tim Lincecum who continue to impress. (AsianWeek – BB2)

Asian American baseball players. Here’s part one of two. It’s not the longest list, but it’s only getting better. This is a 2000-2005 version which is missing one of our favorite players, the 420 loving long haired pitcher for the SF Giants. It’s also not complete, but that’s fine, This list has plenty of players we’d have never thought of or heard of. Some don’t have the best stories after their names or if you look at the stats, but that’s often the plight of Asian Americans in sports – it’s feast or famine. We’re not sure if anyone reads the petition site and says, “hmm, I think I’m going to change the name of this park.” However in this case, it’s a fine idea. Betty Ong park, a place where she played, learned, grew up, and perhaps ultimately made her the courageous person she was. Yes, she was a cool airplane attendant aboard one of the planes that hit the World Trade Center buildings. She’s been crowned a hero, so why not name a friggin park after her in San Francisco where she was born. That sounds easy and a great tribute on the opposite coast of NYC. Might as well do it now.
