THEO ELLSWORTH AT GR2 JULY 28 – AUGUST 15, 2012 RECEPTION: SATURDAY, JULY 28, 6:30-10PM Theo Ellsworth draws obsessively detailed drawings and self-publishes comics, mini comics, and zines about imaginary people and places. The cosmic imagery, subtle geometry, and implied animism in his works recall the epic, heroic, and odd imagery of Jean “Moebius” Girard, Mayan ruins, and the Nazca lines, filtered through the jam-packed and often psychedelic lens of underground comix from the ’70s. (Ellsworth’s first “real” book, Capacity, was weird, wordy, and wonderful, and published by Secret Acres in 2008.) Taking part in art shows affords the Portland, OR-based artist opportunities to experiment with color, explore larger frames, and let his imagination fly–or spelunk or dive, depending on his mood. >> A LITTLE STRANGER - SLEEPING SEA URCHIN HORVATH X UGLYDOLL REMIX FIGURE DRIL ONE - U.S. UDMM12 HORVATH X UGLYDOLL REMIX FIGURE YUKINORI DEHARA - MENTA MOTHMAN HORVATH X UGLYDOLL REMIX FIGURE YUKINORI DEHARA - WAGE SATOSHI HORVATH X UGLYDOLL REMIX FIGURE J*RYU - TUESDAY & TUSCANY HORVATH X UGLYDOLL REMIX FIGURE SCOTT TOLLESON - LEONARD HORVATH X UGLYDOLL REMIX FIGURE JULIE WEST - UNTITLED HORVATH X UGLYDOLL REMIX FIGURE SPANKY STOKES – UGLYSTROLL HORVATH X UGLYDOLL REMIX FIGURE         COMIC-CON’S NOT DEAD PT. 2 By MARTIN WONG It isn’t easy for the casual fan to acquire tickets to Comic-Con. Once you get in, it’s an ordeal to squeeze past the movie studio palaces with their big screens and giveaways. But if you are willing to put in the work, Comic-Con is still pretty awesome. >> BOB AND THE MONSTER SCREENING / Q&A AT KPCC By MARTIN WONG If you ever listened to Bob Forrest’s radio show, you know he doesn’t give a fuck about social media. Yet I’m compelled to gush about last night’s screening of Bob and The Monster, Keirda Bahruth’s 2011 documentary about him. >> INTERVIEW WITH EDDIE SOLIS OF IT’S CASUAL By MARTIN WONG Meanwhile, Eddie and I chitchatted after each show and he began responding to some of the photos and reviews that I was posting online. One thing led to another, and here’s a (yup) casual Q&A with one of my new favorite bands and dudes. If you make it to the end, there’s an exclusive MP4 waiting for you. >> COMIC-CON: THE LAST By ERIC NAKAMURA The last photo set from Comic-Con 2012. >> COMIC-CON: DAY 4 By ERIC NAKAMURA Saturday at Comic-Con 2012. >> GAMESPOT TOURS GIANT ROBOT BOOTH 1729 By GIANT ROBOT NEWS GameSpot gets GR Boss Robot Eric Nakamura to give him a video tour of booth 1729 at Comic-Con 2012. >> COMIC-CON: DAY 3 By ERIC NAKAMURA Friday at Comic-Con 2012. >> 2015 Sawtelle Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90025 2062 Sawtelle Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90025           giant robot po box 642053 los angeles, ca 90064 310.479.7311 info@giantrobot.com subscribe to this list | unsubscribe from this list | update subscription preferences
