Asian carp are a problem in the Great Lakes. They’re swallowing all of the plankton and ruining to eco-system. They even jump out of the water hurting boaters! Introduced from Asia and swam up waterways. Carp has always been a fish you don’t eat. It’s the junky fish of the planet and basically free. Now the Department of Natural Resources (who?) are going to launch a campaign to try and get people to eat carp. How? What type of dish? Tacos? A stew? Carp is a bony fish, and we’ll see who’s going to eat this. (NPR – carp for lunch)

Dog Eating Festival Cancelled! There was a time when you couldn’t have a dog as a pet, but now dogs are growing as pets. The event in Qianxi Township, China existed for 600 years and for the first time, it’s cancelled. They used to skin the dogs in the streets! It seems like social networking launched the outcry and the government responded. (Xinhuanet - dog)

The odd couple. Mega star Yao Ming who’s now retired and Virgin everything boss Richard Branson have teamed up to help curb Shark Fin hunting. Although there’s action happening in the US, the majority of the shark fin is eaten in China where Yao Ming is campaigning. Can one or two very wealthy persons make change and help the sharks repopulate? The appetites of a billion might be tough to change. (Washington Post – Yao and Branson)

Using the best in Ching Chong technology, Chinese classical music is used to illustrate fruit carving. The artist, Vid Nikolic carves a watermelon skin into an amazing flower and he can carve any veggie into something that you’d want to display until it rots away. A generation of us grew up eating Cup Noodles and it’s fitting that near Tokyo, Nissin foods the folks who founded the Cup Noodle opened a museum. Japan is known for their many specific museums. They’re not huge, but this one looks great and you can even create your own flavor in their “noodle factory” If you’re a ramen fan, you can also visit the ramen museum. Why they decided to spell it Raumen, when it’s conventional to spell it ramen, is still a mystery. (metro us – Nissin)
