The Ichiro Effect is now gone from Seattle, a west coast location that’s not as far from Japan and New York City. Tourism will be affected as people will now perhaps defect to New York for visits. But even that will be less. Seattle is a much simpler place to visit. “Japan sends more tourists to Seattle than any other country, according to U.S. Commerce department officials, the newspaper notes. In 2011 alone, 64,000 Japanese tourists visited the region.” (USA Today – Ichiro Effect)

Kim Jong-Un is in the driver’s seat now. Dad’s gone and he can date whoever he wants. He can go to see Disney musical shows, wear Swiss watches and drink Japanese beer. His time is now. Analysts have spent the last few days trying to guess who a pretty lady (dressed like Laura Bush) is. She’s been seen beside him at several recent state events, and she bears a striking similarity to Kim’s ex-girlfriend, North Korean pop star, Hyon Song-Wol. She’s know for her hits “Excellent Horse-Like Lady” and “I Love Pyongyang”. She fronted a band called the Bochonbo Electronic Music Band, but now spends her time hanging out with her old flame. Vanity Fair and NY Magazine are knocking her, and for some reason doubtful of her identity. Read more about her, and catch her music video on the Daily Mail’s coverage.

Besides the camaraderie and the creativity of making the print version of Giant Robot, what I miss most is getting free music. I loved opening bubble mailers full of review CDs with bios, stickers, and other stuff. Sure, 90 percent of it was shitty but I got exposed to a ton of great bands and people that way. Now I have to seek out new music just like everyone else.
That being said, sometimes I still get hooked up. Here’s some stuff I got from friends during my recent Comic-Con trip, with a radical split 7″ as a bonus.
The 1 sq meter house by architect, Van Bo Le-Mentzel isn’t really a house, but it’s a personal space. Read, maybe eat, rest, and it’s your space. Yes, it’s cute and could be made for perhaps under $100. Is it new? Sort of, but in the end, it’s just a concept more than reality.
