Giant Robot Store and GR2 News

Tune in to TBS at 10pm/9c Thursday, June 19th to watch the premiere episode of Sullivan and Son. You’ve probably already seen the K-Town video online, so check out another Asian crew with a little more body hair and less posturing. Sullivan and Son stars hapa stand-up comedian Steve Byrne (Korean and Irish), Dan Lauria (the dad from the Wonder Years), Jodi Long (All American Girl & much more), and most notably, Vivian Bang (friend to GR and seasoned film and TV actress, including a role in Derek Kirk Kim’s project Mythomania). Looks to be like good entertainment for a network show. Family friendly, and giving America a peek at how more and more families are in the US – mixed race/ethnicity and totally not weird because of it (well, maybe just a little weird). The focus here is on laughs, family, and how we go about living a life we can love. I like it already.  Tune in, or set your DVR and support a show that’s bringing more of what we need to mainstream media.

It’s been at least a couple years of talk about it, then it finally appears and we realize, these folks can’t be real average K-Town folks. Dudes are all buff and they appear to be all a bunch of actors. Either way, it’s here, it gives visibility to Asians of some sort.

I didn’t know much about It’s Casual until just a couple of weeks ago when I caught the duo on a killer bill with Negative Approach and DYS at Alex’s Bar. I knew what to expect from the hardcore legends from Detroit and Boston, but holy shit. The local skate rockers not only held their own but totally ruled with their full-on aggro (yet smart) blasts of metalic (yet fun) brand of SST-informed hardcore. I confirmed my suspicions a week later when they played a furious in-store at Vacation Vinyl to promote a rad limited-edition split 7″ single with Early Man.

Meanwhile, Eddie and I chitchatted after each show and he began responding to some of the photos and reviews that I was posting online. One thing led to another, and here’s a (yup) casual Q&A with one of my new favorite bands and dudes. If you make it to the end, there’s an exclusive MP4 waiting for you.

NY Knicks think they’re onto something without Lin… Houston Rockets will end up with Lin if this plays out. Jason Kidd and Lin would have been a great tandem. Either way Lin has to be thankful for the Knicks and has to hope he’ll fit in another system. There’s some backstory. “So it was up to Lin to set his own market value, by getting an outside offer. He initially agreed with Houston on a three-year, $19.5 million deal, including a $9.3 million balloon payment in the third year. That deal was agreed to in principle but never signed. When it became apparent that the Knicks would match, the Rockets increased the third-year salary to $14.9 million, close to the maximum allowed. The Knicks are already expected to be over the luxury-tax threshold, so Lin’s salary would have cost them tens of millions more under the league’s more punitive new system.” (NY Times – Lin)
