LIFE: After Hiroshima: On the anniversary of the July 16, 1945 Trinity test in New Mexico that gave birth to the Atomic Age, LIFE.com presents photographs — most of them never published in LIFE — taken in Hiroshima after the Second World War ended. Here, in the landscape of a ruined city, and on the scarred skin and misshapen limbs of Japanese who survived the world’s first nuclear attack, photographer Carl Mydans discovered the legacy — part nightmare, part surprising, wishful dream — of those world-changing explosions. Hiroshima children patiently wait their turn for a examination in a temporary clinic. Here’s more of photographer Carl Mydan’s 1947 photo series [ LIFE ~ "Hiroshima: Portraits of Survivors" ]

“Mountain Ghosts” is what snow leopards are called by locals who share their habitat. They do what they can to survive in Mongolia, China, India, Pakistan and Tajikistan. Their numbers have been dwindling for decades, but two separate dens have been found and footage of a mother with her cubs has been recorded for the first time ever. Snow Leopard Mother And Cub In Mongolian Den from Panthera Cats on Vimeo. Hopes are, that this video will help remind people that the snow leopards need help to survive in the wild. Hopefully they won’t need armed bodyguards to follow them all over like the 4 of the 8 remaining Northern white rhinos.

Twitter’s 140 character limit can lead to so much misunderstanding and heartbreak. It’s destroyed the lives of politicians, movie stars, and people who should just avoid all social media while intoxicated. Poor Snoop Dogg is it’s latest victim… Misunderstood… Snoop Dogg got in trouble for tweeting that Korean Idol group Girls Generation (who he performed on a track with not long ago) had “No Biscuits” just “legs and thighs”. Fans of Girls Generation freaked out. As defined by UrbanDictonary.com, a biscuit is something good, something you want. Most interpreted “No Biscuit” to mean, “No Ass” which in today’s standards for hip-hop/pop beauty is a definite diss. His PR/social media team quickly resolved the issue by re-defining “biscuit”: Today’s lesson. from. Professor Snoop. Biscuits = ugly faces. My ladiez @GirlsGeneration. got beautiful faces. Legs n. thighs. No biscuits #ONELOVE & #REINCARNATED – Snoop Dogg (@SnoopDogg) July 10, 2012 They also put that fancy Instagram image together to illustrate his point with KyoChon, GG, Paris Hilton and biscuits with legs and thighs. Whew!! Genius. Good save. Snoop, keep those people on the payroll!
