Giant Robot Store and GR2 News

I squeezed in another piece that’ll be up in Balconi Coffee today. This one is titled, “Cat Sitting on Two Blocks”. It’s made from Sculpey, wood, and acrylic paint. The wood blocks are ancient. I bought a box of wood blocks at a yard sale perhaps a decade ago. I can’t recall who, but someone said it was clutter but look at it now. I discovered Sculpey from playing with it with Souther Salazar and Saelee Oh. We’d have Sculpey nights and dubbed it Sculpey Kids. We’d have others come as well and it was always fun. I haven’t touched it in years. Kika, my cat is inspecting the piece.     Below: this is is a Ray Sato art at Balconi Coffee. While this special drink isn’t on the menu, it was made especially for me and it was the first time Ray ever made it. I’m getting it again.     Thanks Kio Griffiths for inviting me into an art show. Sometimes, getting an invite to something sparks ideas that lead to other ideas.

Lee Ufan, Relatum   Sekine Nobuo, Phase—Mother Earth   Before this article, I’ve barely heard of this movement, but thanks to a big exhibition, collectors who are paying high dollars, the work is getting it’s due. The movement appears to have lasted just a short period from 68-73. Mono-ha means, “School of Things” and appears to be minimal and at times, almost religious. Lee Ufan, a Korean born artist might be the biggest name and has had exhibitions at the Guggenheim and Blum and Poe. Coming soon in 2012 will be a Mono-ha exhibition at Blum and Poe that will take up their entire Culver City space. It’s a huge location and the exhibition should be museum worthy. The rest of the article talks about prices which ultimately is turning heads. (artinamerica – Mono-ha)

There are so many great Post It art works on the wall. Again, iPhone shots as I walked by the pieces. Imagine getting the Star Wars set below… very cool. Here’s the list of names and the place you can purchase something. At $20 for most of the regular size Post It works, it’s a great deal.

Saelee Oh below. That’s a nice piece.

Is that Lucy Liu? A couple of weeks back, I helped Lucy Liu with her purchases at GR. She wore no make up, looked awesome and was super low key. We joked around for nearly an hour and she was as down to Earth as anyone can be. It’s not the first time I’ve seen her at GR, and hopefully not the last.

See the set below.
