Mayor Eric Garcetti Asian American Roundtable

Mayor Eric Garcetti geared up and wore the Giant Robot pin - the orange Big Boss Robot head when we took a photo yesterday in his meeting room. I was there along with a contingent of Asian Americans as part of a roundtable discussion about issues surrounding the Asian American community. I can admit that I felt dwarfed by the great orgs represented, but then again Giant Robot has a long track record of providing and working with others with no subsidization from grants or government.  It has to be normal that anyone who speaks will bring up what their group needs most. So there were some specifics that wouldn't apply to me, whether it's funding or some type or city...

The Mayor of Little Saigon

  That’s Tri Ta, who came to the US at 19 in 1992 is the first Vietnamese American Mayor of Little Saigon. He’ll be inundated with work and he’ll be held to a high standard. He’s also a young guy. (LA Times – Tri Ta) There also seems to be some rich stories about Little Saigon that are starting to trickle into media. Maybe it’s the Small Town, USA vibe, but keep them coming! We re posted one earlier about the local mail man who serves almost as a Mayor as well. (GR – Raymond Tran)

Famous Mayor of Stricken Japanese Town is Now Infamous

Katsunobu Sakurai the mayor of Minamisoma who was named top 100 influential persons thanks to his YouTube video which got the word out that his town needed financial support is now under fire. Some say that the fame has gone to his head. The town is 15 miles from Fukushima and it’s been reported that 8% of the land in Japan has too much Cesium (we’re not quite sure how bad it is), it’s obvious that his town of Minamisoma has to be part of the 8%. He’s still pushing for people to come back and live there, so he’s facing scrutiny. Either way, it’s another great way for him to get in the news to renew some interest in...
