Giant Robot Store and GR2 News
This article has been staring at people for the last couple days. The study ranges from March 20, just 9 days after the disaster through June 20th. 14 weeks. Does this mean that the US population got infected and died from the disaster? Did it speed up already ill people? Surely there will be some effects elsewhere in perhaps minor or even major ways, but this number seems off. You’d think the numbers would be 10 times worse just in Japan alone but it’s not.Who is this researcher?! (Medpagetoday – Fukushima 14000)

Yu Darvish posting fee tops 51 Million which is just the right to talk to the pitcher. It serves as a deposit that’s refundable if a deal can’t be made in a month. The money goes to his former team, the Nippon Ham Fighters. What’s in store for the Texas Rangers? Paying him for a contract that’ll be risky. Darvish will probably be the best pitcher to ever come out of Japan and for some reason, we hear that with just about every big name pitcher, like Nomo, Irabu, and Dice-K. This one is the real. Legendary ex-pitcher and CEO, president and owner of the Rangers, Nolan Ryan might see something a lot of others can’t in Darvish and perhaps that a great sign. Ryan pitched competitively through his mid 40s and had a fastball and once had the fastest pitch at 101mph. Will Darvish make it? It’s not the best market for a Japanese pitcher, but it might be the right team. Meanwhile, here’s a Nolan Ryan clip you must see. At 46…

The once gold medal winning gymnast from China is the namesake of his own brand which is making some inroads in it’s efforts to be a global sportswear brand. Heard of them? Perhaps not. This brand is a household name in China, yet in it’s efforts to grow into the US market, they’re having difficulties. Figure out why? Is the name Li Ning something that you’d rock on a daily basis? Can a design transcend a name that’s… well, a name? Imagine if a shoe was called Shaquille O’Neal, who ironically is sponsored by Li Ning 5 years too late? Would you wear that? No. That said, the company has had massive drops in sales. The stocks have dropped massive and the gross sales aren’t looking good. The offices of designers in Portland has had an exodus. So what does a brand do when it’s called Li Ning? The name has to remain. Maybe a sub brand for the US Market so the brand goes through the backdoor. Maybe they take ideas laid down by the kids and go that route. But badminton sponsorships? Wrong move dudes.

From 60 years ago, you hardly hear of the good in Japanese American concentration camps. Yes, there are pockets of smiles here and there. A way of life had to get established since they were behind fences and guns. Gardens, farming, making crafts, baseball, you hear of it all. The legacy sort of lives via the art and the photographs. This article points out Ralph L Carr, the Governor of Colorado who fought for the Japanese Americans. Yes, they still got imprisoned. He served only one term perhaps for his opinions. (American Thinker – Ralph L Carr) Ralph Carr has a memorial in a spot that look super barren.

GR gets more visitors during the holidays. This is Kio Inagaki who’s often referred to as one of the better surfers in the area, and the person behind Yellow Rat clothing visits and gifts me a new hoodie. Barry McGee refers to him as the “best underground surfer”. The print is below, it’s the same image that’s on some of his “Dingy” T shirts. We have them. The hoodie is actually interesting since it’s not just an ordinary cut. It’s made like hoodies from the 50s and the cuffs are folded over, the cut is actually unlike anything I’ve seen, and that’s how it’s done. From Kio’s blog: “Collaborated artwork of Barry McGee and Margaret Kilgalen, graphic art masters representing San Francsco. Banner and fonts done by Barry, and the character was drawn by Margaret.” (GR – Yellow Rat) This photo is taken from Kio’s blog. See how the cut is different?
