Giant Robot Store and GR2 News

The first thing that comes to mind with a title like that? Yes, get higher baby. Yet what are these? The alien QR code is quite nice, the very tangled landing strip, maybe, gigantic snail trails? You can zoom in here and get an idea of what it could be. It’s intriguing to say the least and the UFO fans and conspiracy theorists are having a good time. On Sunday night I got to play records at the premiere party for my friends Tad and Thy’s excellent The Working Man skate video. Actually, it was our mutual friend and actual DJ Wing Ko who was initially invited, but he asked me if I wanted to join him. How could I say no? Isn’t it every dude’s dream to play his favorite songs at maximum volume and make a ton of people listen to it?

For my first, last, and most likely only effort as DJ Moway, I played one set of 7″ singles and another with vinyl LPs, EPs and compilations. Unlike Wing, who did some serious mixing, editing, and other tricks, I just played records. Here are the song lists, as well as links to versions that I put up on Spotify and shared via Facebook. Interestingly, each of the online sets can fit snugly on one side of a 90-minute cassette! That’s appropriate since they’re more like mix tapes for sitting around, shooting the shit, and playing dominoes than packing a dance floor.

The video is sort of a propaganda machine for a huge camera company. There’s a lot of personal feelings included as well, but the Nikon Coolpix p300 was designed by a young man. You may shut it after a few minutes, but there’s some interestings parts. They tell you about his personality and then gets into some design aspects of the camera and how he goes about it. Process is always fun to see. (core77 – Nikon)

Rcycling plant in Japan. Panasonic Eco Technology Center. PETEC. It’s cool to hear of things like this where appliances get recycled and turned back into resources. The things that’s neat about this is that manufacturers and designers actually go and see how easy their product is to dismantle and recycle. Further, this leads to efficiency later down the road. A quote in Triple Pundit says, “The plant, which salvages just about every material one can think of, is a model for “recycling-oriented manufacturing” that will surge in the coming years as raw materials become more expensive and difficult to source.” Recycling Oriented Manufacturing. That’s Cool.
