Frank Gehry is looking towards Asia for projects as the US Economy slows. Asia? More like China and India. His quotes aren’t so settling. “One challenge of designing in a country such as China is the lower pay for projects, Gehry said in the interview this week. Architects get paid a percentage of construction costs, which in China are about a third of what they are in the U.S., he said. Further, it says he’s going to open an office in China to work with the locals. Of course you should work with the locals! ““I have over 100 people in my office,” said Gehry, who formed the partnership in 2001. “At my age, I would love only to work in Los Angeles, maybe Santa Monica, maybe Beverly Hills.”” Then spend some of your millions and millions and keep working in the places you want. (Business Week  -Gehry)

It may not look like much, but this is part of a Mongol ship that was discovered from an attempted attack. 36 feet of ship was found near Nagasaki in the Southern part of Japan. As mentioned in a previous post the rough waters of the Sea of Japan protected the country from attacks like these. Most ships ended up underwater. Mongolia was once a super power that attempted to take all of Asia. The article by the BBC mentions that their nautical skills weren’t up to par and ship building was done by “subjugated” Chinese and Koreans. Yes they were bad ass at the time. (BBC – Mongol)

The Flying Ball or Orb is a small break through, and looks to be more like a great holiday gift than weapon for defense. It’s benefits are that it can go in any directions, roll, then take off again in an instant. How will it help or assist? It supposedly will be able to take off and land in places that are difficult to access. It also can level itself if it gets bumped in the air. Want one? It supposedly costs $1440. That’s doable.   (LATimes blogs – Orb)

Susie Ghahremani is a long time artist and supporter of Giant Robot. Some of her most popular work are tiny pieces that gave her major hand problems in the past, but the results are a beautiful array of birds, trees, and other spirited images. It’s hard to show just one or two Susie Ghahremani artworks since her career is expanding into products by Chronicle Books including a travel journal called Bon Voyage. You can see her works and more at her site boygirlparty.com   Susie is also working on a picture book which will be out in 2013, illustrations in the Bust – Diy Guide to Life book, and has an exhibition currently in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. A strange link is her affinity for the game of Sudoku. She even illustrates the covers of Sudoku books. Take a look! Her works continue to balance cute, technical, and colorful. We also feature some of Susie’s goods at our own site like the print above. Please take a look and watch for Susie Ghahremani at Giant Robot 2 in 2012.
