SliceTruck Last Day on Sawtelle and Moving West

SliceTruck Chris Our beloved pizza place on Sawtelle is moving. SliceTruck opened quietly on the block a few years ago. His truck was no longer and he chose to go brick and mortar. Sawtelle Blvd was still "up and coming" and it all seemed to be the right place. I'm not sure if it turned out to be just right for a pizza place, but what I do know is that his pizza is spot on. In a land of food critics, he's not exempt. The Last Day For Satsuma Imports on Sawtelle

The day arrived for the second closure of the old school Sawtelle businesses. First it was George's Hardware next door to GR2 who closed just last month and today was the final day for Satsuma Imports. I remember going into Satsuma Imports as a kid. There was a pond in back and a tiny bridge that would take you across to the other side which had a bit more retail. Thanks Mike Bonin, 11th District

I've received some nice awards and recognition by the City of Los Angeles. I have one or two signed by ex-Mayor Villaraigosa, perhaps one or two by current mayor Eric Garcetti, Little Tokyo Councilmember Huizar, and I'm positive there's at least one or two more signed by a soul I can't remember. But this one, which didn't show up at the opening reception of the Giant Robot Biennale 4 and doesn't quite have the correct name of the exhibition might be the one that I like the most. It mentions the "Giant Robot exhibition" in Little Tokyo and gives a nod to my commitment to Sawtelle Japantown. Thanks Councilmember Mike Bonin and Senior Field Deputy Len Nguyen!

George's Hardware Closes Today on Sawtelle Blvd After 42 Years

After 42 years, George's Hardware closed its doors. We once leased out part of their building for gr/eats and Tsuyoshi who actually isn't the original "George" but might as well be, was always a great landlord and neighbor. At some point about 30+ years ago, he took over George's and made it his own. He'd let me borrow anything I needed and at the same time, I'd try and buy things that I needed from him.  The shop itself sports a special patina. The building is decades of no frills and hard work that created community and served perhaps two generations of gardeners. It's gritty but that was always its special charm. Izumi once explained that the place hasn't changed since...
