Sono is scheduled to introduce the second screenings if time permits. Sion Sono is among the hottest filmmakers from Japan and is a film festival favorite worldwide. June 10th Cold Fish 8pm *free, Hair Extensions 12 Midnight $10. June 11th Love Exposure 2:30pm $10, Noriko’s Dinner Table 8pm $10. the Cinefamily screenings are free for members. In addition: Giant Robot Friends will be showing their wares, art, and more, before and after the screenings. Pick up some zines, prints, and artwork. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Giant Robot Rock Quietly Sessions Grand Hallway with Goh Nakamura – Free Fri June 17 7-10pm GR2 2062 Sawtelle Blvd.Los Angeles, CA 90025 http://giantrobot.com (310) 445-9276 Giant Robot Rock Quietly Sessions featuring Seattle group Grand Hallway accompanied with Goh Nakamura will take the floor at Giant Robot 2. An intimate atmosphere, this six member band will play somewhat unplugged. Grand Hallway are touring as part of their third album release, “Winter Creatures”. Tomo Nakayama, lead vocalist and chief songwriter endured his grandparents death, the birth of a guitar player, Jeramy Koepping’s baby, and the closure of the Neptune Theater in Seattle, all contributed to the new songs. Giant Robot contributor, Goh Nakamura is a singer / songwriter and stars in “Surrogate Valentine”, a feature film current on the film festival circuit. Together, Giant Robot and Goh Nakamura have thus far curated two Giant Robot Rock Quietly Sessions with more on the way. Nakamura cites Grand Hallway as one of his favorite bands. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Group art show opening Blithe Spirits: New work by Sean Chao and Inés Estrada June 11 – June 29th, 2011 Reception: Saturday, June 11, 6:30 – 10:00 pm GR2 2062 Sawtelle Blvd.Los Angeles, CA 90025 http://giantrobot.com (310) 445-9276 Giant Robot is proud to host Blithe Spirits, a joint art show featuring new work by Sean Chao and Inés Estrada. Sean Chao is a Los Angeles based artist from Taiwan. Chao sculpts, paints, and delicately constructs a world filled with curiosity and amusement through creatures and nature. The Mixed-media pieces capture odd moments frozen in time. They hint at a narrative and create an imaginary history. His latest works are inspired by automobiles and nature. Humor is one of the key ingredients in his work. Chao combined and created a world that automobiles and nature can co-exist without pollutions. He plans to have 10 to15 small to medium size pieces of sculptures and drawings. Inés Estrada has lived in Mexico City for as long as she knows. She likes working with any materials she has at hand, as long as the result is colorful and messy. Her work is spontaneous and has no meaning other than you, the viewer, would like to find in it. She also likes making things with her partner Roi, and together they are Café con Leche, name under which they create comics, drawings, songs, sandwiches and plushie bastard children. At Giant Robot 2 on May 28th, Saturday starting at 6pm until everyone gets tired, join us and come and draw. No pressure, just draw for fun. We’ll have special Guest Jeni Yang who’s currently showing along with Jesse Fillingham. We’ll draw, pass around pages, and keep drawing and see what happens. It’s BYOB if you want, but we’ll have tables and some chairs. Stop in, shop, and draw.
