Giant Robot Store and GR2 News

Announcing Risograph Printing Workshop II with Never Press. If you don’t know what Risograph is, here’s your chance. The fine folks at Never Press will bring their Risograph machine for you to try. Basically Risograph looks like a photocopier, but it’s not. It’s more akin to a silkscreen press since it runs like a printing press – complete with plate and ink (not toner). They will change the inks so you can layer multiple colors as well. Suggested donations of $3, but if you want to print more, you can do that too. July 29th 1-6pm, 2012 at Giant Robot 2 2062 Sawtelle Blvd, LA, CA 90025   Here are photos from the first Risograph Workshop.

Giant Robot 2 is always proud to host Jesse Fillingham. Alongside Jeni Yang, we exhibited Fillingham at Giant Robot 2 in 2011. Here’s some images. Below is the piece from Robots which was happily sold.     When’s he not doing his own work, he teams up with his artist friend, James Chong and together they are Never Press. We hosted that at CineFamily as part of a Sion Sono screening. Take a look at their goods! Fillingham will also be exhibiting at MOHS in Denmark.

Sion Sono’s epic films showed this weekend at Cinefamily in LA. Here’s a shot of Sion Sono below. Unknown to a most of the sold out crowd was the fact that we brought in some extra fun in the form of food trucks. Lomo Arigato brought in the Japanese Peruvian food. I saw some of the folks munching down. Out in the patio was James Chong and Jesse Fillingham. The next day featured Mandoline Grill, Mari Inukai and Albert Reyes! Lomo Arigato! This pic rocks. Giant Robot welcomes the combined efforts of artists Jesse Filllingham and Jeni Yang for Synthesis at GR2! This new show features two amazing artists, presenting 23 pieces of original art work. Jeni Yang is an illustrator who is Taipei-born and living in Los Angeles. Her art brings out the relationships between musical instruments and both humans and animals and explores the effects that each one has on the other. Jeni experiments with a wide variety of materials and mediums, but all ten pieces of her art work for this show incorporate woodwork in order to provide a whimsical and surreal feel and pastels and soft wood stains in order to invoke nostalgia. Jesse Fillingham is a Los Angeles artist who explores themes from nature, mythology, and fantastic worlds. His work in this show addresses the relationship between people and nature by taking real-world practices (such as logging or building dams) and infusing them with personal mythologies and mysteries. Witness more of their work through the following link or click on the photo below! GR2 Synthesis – Jesse Fillingham and Jeni Yang!
