Game Night is always a fun event. The evening had a summer vacation vibe as the area was filled with locals who were just cut free from school. Graduations just took place at the local colleges and everyone was happy to be out. It’s hard to capture the many little micro things going on at Game Night. The crowds came through in waves, so it went from packed, to light, to packed again. We had 4 different games, 5 stations, Yeren – a board game that’s part of Game Over, and even a marriage proposal.

The proposal. They were up from San Diego, he had told her that one day they’d go to a Game Night. He wore a different GR shirt during the day and had a costume change at some point, since at Game Night, he was wearing his proposal outfit. He got the ring a couple of months earlier. After playing games, checking things out, he played Yeren in front of Shelby Cinca and Sean Chao, and that’s where he popped the question. She said yes. Romantic dude. She was near shaking and fiddling with the ring nonstop. The photo below is just a few minutes later. Eventually, we hope to see their Flipcam video that someone shot. Game Night is magical.

The photos below is Glorkian Warriors shot from off the parking lot wall at Giant Robot 2. The art is by James Kochalka, and the Game play, Pixeljam. This will be a hit game. The animation is smooth and it feels like you’re in the Kochalka cartoon world. This is a fun one.

Originally from Taipei but now based in Los Angeles, Jeni Yang is an illustrator who experiments with a wide variety of materials and mediums. The incorporation of woodwork in her whimsical and surreal paintings adds a handcrafted feel; the use of pastels and soft wood stains, nostalgia. She works out of a garage in deep Orange County, and spends 50/50 of her time working on the wood portions of her work and painting. In this Giant Robot Artist Friends film, Yang explains her process further and you’ll get to see her use a scroll saw. Take a look at Jeni Yang’s work as part of Synthesis (showing with Jesse Fillingham).

Giant Robot welcomes the combined efforts of artists Jesse Filllingham and Jeni Yang for Synthesis at GR2! This new show features two amazing artists, presenting 23 pieces of original art work. Jeni Yang is an illustrator who is Taipei-born and living in Los Angeles. Her art brings out the relationships between musical instruments and both humans and animals and explores the effects that each one has on the other. Jeni experiments with a wide variety of materials and mediums, but all ten pieces of her art work for this show incorporate woodwork in order to provide a whimsical and surreal feel and pastels and soft wood stains in order to invoke nostalgia. Jesse Fillingham is a Los Angeles artist who explores themes from nature, mythology, and fantastic worlds. His work in this show addresses the relationship between people and nature by taking real-world practices (such as logging or building dams) and infusing them with personal mythologies and mysteries. Witness more of their work through the following link or click on the photo below! GR2 Synthesis – Jesse Fillingham and Jeni Yang!
