Giant Robot Store and GR2 News

The next Ryan Gosling vehicle (no pun intended), will be by the same director, the now popular Nicolas Winding Refn will take place in Thailand. In “Only God Forgives” A Thai ex-cop and Gosling will come head to head in the streets of Bangkok. Shooting is to happen mostly at night. (Bangkok Post – Refn) It looks like God Only Forgives is going to made before the Logan’s Run remake that’s also to star Gosling, along with mentions of a romantic comedy set in New York that’s also yet another Gosling adventure.

Akira is back… with a non Asian playing a guy named Kaneda. All of the complaints, blog posts, and Twitter messaged didn’t change a think for this 90 million dollar movie. Will it be all green screened? Garrett Hedlund of Tron is in talks to play the lead character. But why? The folks at Kotaku sound pissed (Akira), and messing with one of the greatest anime films ever to be made this way is just crappy. This is yet another example of “conservative casting”, a plague that’s happening these days in your favorite film industry. That’s Garrett Hedlund with his Akira pants

Netflix Streaming is known to have a variety of crappy films. It’s where filmmakers who’s films are either too low budget, didn’t make it to the big screen, or just flew under the radar actually succeed. Some movies are just older than old and this is their last gasp of air. Streaming also gives you TV shows super late, but it’s better than renting DVDs one by one. Many Asian films live on Netflix. Now CJ Entertainment, the power moguls of cinema in Korea are putting some of their pictures on Netflix Streaming. Here’s some titles. “Included in the deal are blockbusters from iconic Korean director Kang Woo-Suk including his recent mystery thriller hit Moss, and Silmido, a riveting restaging of a 1973 plot against the President; lighter fare such as The Servant, a racy period comedy, and I’m A Cyborg But That’s Ok, an offbeat romantic comedy from celebrated director Park Chan-Wook starring Rain. Other titles include Arahan; Fish Story; Castaway on the Moon; Going by the Book; Good Morning President; Harmony; Killer Virgin Road; King and the Clown; Love, in Between; Murder, Take One; No Mercy; Rikidozan; Sayonara Itsuka; Secret; Sophie’s Revenge; and The Unjust.” (Fandom Post – CJ)

The Dickies might have covered the Gigantor song (YouTube link to the song), but it’s remake as a Hollywood film is now underway. Bryan Barber director of Idlewild is shopping the project around and is dubbing it a “Transformers meets Goonies.” How’s that for an elevator pitch? The story is about a kid who gains control of a robot and there you have it. A story that’s easily understood. The animation began in 1956 and was repackaged in America in the 60s. A few photos that illustrate the day of a visitor like myself in Hawaii. That’s Goh Nakamura below. He played an awkward set at a bar that was louder than he was, but then he figured out the amplification and made it work. Anytime walls are red, you get interesting shots. This took place at a bar called Ichiriki.

Yes an SLR can catch moments like this. I like the light from the phone. It was quite dark, but it still showed up.
