Giant Robot Store and GR2 News

Will it ever be clean? Also once it’s clean, what will go here? Apartments? In 100 years or even 200 years, many will forget, many will say the area is totally clean and yes lofty ocean front apartments will get made just as they do on top of toxic landfills. 40 years sounds like a good timetable but why make something when it takes decades to remove it? (CBS – 40 Years)

Great name fellas. This ill monikered company run by producers, Takanori Oya and William Winckler are importing talent to Japan, but not big namers but stars that you may see annually signing autographs at Comic Con. From The Hollywood Reporter: “…Richard Hatch (Capt. Apollo from the original Battlestar Galactica series), Wesley Eure (Will Marshall from TV’s Land of the Lost) and Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster from The Munsters). The founders say that many of those programs were and remain popular in Japan, making the stars marketable. And in a down economy, the work often is welcome. “There are so many talented actors in America who haven’t gotten the chance to prove themselves,” says Oya. “I want to get them the chance to work in Japan.” (Hollywood Reporter – Cashing in on Japan) The older shows actually have a life in Japan, and those stars from years past have a shot at getting decently paid work in Japan. Will Lou Ferrigno (originally cast as The Hulk, tv series) find a job? The best stat in the article is the fact that Tommy Lee Jones makes 1 million for 6 months of his Boss Coffee commercials. Suntory Time!

This article has been staring at people for the last couple days. The study ranges from March 20, just 9 days after the disaster through June 20th. 14 weeks. Does this mean that the US population got infected and died from the disaster? Did it speed up already ill people? Surely there will be some effects elsewhere in perhaps minor or even major ways, but this number seems off. You’d think the numbers would be 10 times worse just in Japan alone but it’s not.Who is this researcher?! (Medpagetoday – Fukushima 14000)

Satomi Ono’s story about her town, Kesennuma which is a name you often hear about when the Japanese disaster is brought up. It was destroyed. This is sort of like journal entries and her tale isn’t the worst since she wasn’t there, but it’s well told and talk about her friends and family and what they went through. It’s well written and she’s just trying to get the word out. (Statemanjournal – Satomi Ono)

Lee Ufan, Relatum   Sekine Nobuo, Phase—Mother Earth   Before this article, I’ve barely heard of this movement, but thanks to a big exhibition, collectors who are paying high dollars, the work is getting it’s due. The movement appears to have lasted just a short period from 68-73. Mono-ha means, “School of Things” and appears to be minimal and at times, almost religious. Lee Ufan, a Korean born artist might be the biggest name and has had exhibitions at the Guggenheim and Blum and Poe. Coming soon in 2012 will be a Mono-ha exhibition at Blum and Poe that will take up their entire Culver City space. It’s a huge location and the exhibition should be museum worthy. The rest of the article talks about prices which ultimately is turning heads. (artinamerica – Mono-ha)
