It’s not Herculean for a company to lose 75% of it’s value in a month or so, yet, Olympus has done that. Since October it’s lost such value, but it’s because of a company scandal. This Time article quickly gets to it, and explains the boring mess, which essentially means instead of showing losses they just bought phony companies – some which may have been owned by Yakuza. We have heard many times that the Olympus Pen is a great camera. Perhaps it’s value will shrink as fast as the company if there’s a break up of it all. (Time – Olympus)

There’s not much more to say except policing the applicants might be better. Not all will return found safes and money. It was in the amount of $200,0o0. Imagine the applicant who is a yakuza and gets to the “are you a yakuza?” Question? (LA Times – Yakuza)

The scientists got enough bone marrow from a Mammoth part found preserved in permafrost. They intend to insert the cell into an elephant egg and see what happens from there. It sounds like great science, but imagine the problems. A) You have just created a mammoth. This beast might kill everything in it’s path one day. This can’t lead to anything good. B) Imagine the elephant who’s giving birth to a mammoth. Elephants are already smart with great memories. The mother elephant will be pissed off. It’s like a human giving birth to an ape thanks to modern science. Not cool and it sounds like it can’t lead to much good in the end except for us to see a pseudo real mammoth. (Google – mammoth)

Katsunobu Sakurai the mayor of Minamisoma who was named top 100 influential persons thanks to his YouTube video which got the word out that his town needed financial support is now under fire. Some say that the fame has gone to his head. The town is 15 miles from Fukushima and it’s been reported that 8% of the land in Japan has too much Cesium (we’re not quite sure how bad it is), it’s obvious that his town of Minamisoma has to be part of the 8%. He’s still pushing for people to come back and live there, so he’s facing scrutiny. Either way, it’s another great way for him to get in the news to renew some interest in his town, which he’s fighting to rebuild. (LA Times – Minamisoma)

Japan already has of the lowest birthrates and a survey of 7000 has found that more than half of the 18-34 men and half of the women are single. The interesting number… the last sentence where it says, 25% of men and woman 35-39 have never had sex. The marriage age grows, and the numbers of single men and women not even looking for a mate is also rising. (BBC – Single Japan) (WSJ – More Single Japan) Photo: pixeltopia
