[nggallery id=82] Vote for Survival at GR2 October 18 – November 12 Reception: Saturday, October 18, 6:30 -10:00 GR2 2062 Sawtelle Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90025 gr2.net (310) 445-9276 Giant Robot is proud to present Vote for Survival, an art show featuring new work by Nikki McClure. First making a name for herself as a solo musician in the early ’90s, McClure has redefined herself as a visual artist by creating stunning works of art out of single sheets of paper with a common X-Acto knife. Instilling the somewhat Asian art form of paper cutting with the populist themes of punk rock, Riot Grrl, and motherhood, the Olympia-based artist has created distinctive pieces for album covers, book covers, a successful series of self-published calendars and postcards, handmade publications, and gallery shows. Vote For Survival is an art tour traveling by train, making stops on the West Coast: Olympia, San Francisco, Los Angeles. The show features a series of limited-edition signs, silk-screened on wood signboards and is a call to action-a reminder of what is really important as this election nears. Original paper cuts will also be exhibited, including artwork from the 2009 “Wake Up” calendar, book covers, and new work inspired by the summer of berries and boats. A reception for McClure will take place from 6:30 – 10:00 on Saturday, October 18. This looks like a meeting of some sort. Is it gossip or a decision being made? I have no idea. That’s their kid Rei. He was watching a Youtube cartoon. I think it was that blue train character. Weird how you can now use a computer to capture a kid’s attention. That’s Yuko, she’s there to help! Rei doesn’t have a spoon, so Rei goes for the straw. His hair is insane. People would pay for his curls. But then again, people pay not to have the curls. This is a funny picture. That’s Shingo, Ai’s husband. He has the curls too, when his hair is longer. If you get a chance, you should definitely check out the exhibition. Yes, bummer, I’ll be in SD, so I had to go today.

Have you heard of these bands? I hear it's all Nordic Metal. They started off right with Souther Salazar's art for the cover. You can download the music for free via their website. Go check it all out. Oh and a bit of trivia, in the right hand corner of the art, there's that tiny little face. That's melted Ninja Turtle Ice cream. Maybe, but that's what happens when you fall asleep with ice cream.
